Succession Planning
It is predicted that in the next 5 years, up to 85% of current Executive Directors will retire. Many of those are organization founders. There is a crucial need for succession planning to ensure the continued vitality of these organizations. We work with a committee of the board and the current Executive Director to guide a process designed to support the organization, board and staff through a smooth management transition. Succession planning services include
- Working with current Executive/Artistic Director to establish a board committee to guide the succession planning
- Working with current Director to identify key components of knowledge and information transfer (organizational history, contacts, financial information, legal documents, etc.)
- Working with Director and board committee to design process for succession (including communication, timing, roles of departing and incoming Directors, etc.)
- Developing criteria and process for reviewing resumes of candidates
- Helping establish a transition committee (board, staff, and Director) to ensure smooth transfer of management
- Working with transition committee to set short term (6 12 month) goals for incoming Interim Director or permanent Director
- Working with outgoing Director, staff and incoming Director to manage change-related anxiety and to envision new possibilities
- Facilitate follow up meeting three to six months into tenure of new Director to discuss goals, roles and mutual expectations
